Cynthia A. McKeown is an award-winning filmmaker and Web producer who has been making documentaries and education media for over twenty years. Her worked has been broadcast internationally on television, screened at film festivals, shown in theaters, and seen on the World Wide Web. After graduating from Cornell University with a bachelor’s degree in Government, McKeown worked as a community and labor organizer, and became increasingly interested in film as a means of exploring and communicating important social issues. She enrolled in film school at Boston University and graduated with an MFA in 1995. For ten years, Ms. McKeown was a Producer at the Boston premier PBS television station, WGBH, where she produced media that featured best practice instructional methods in mathematics, science, and early literacy. Moving into the Web world, she became a multimedia producer and writer for general audience websites on topics including healthy sleep, pediatric epilepsy, and afterschool enrichment. Ms. McKeown’s independent documentary, One in Eight: Janice’s Journey about one woman’s emotional, medical, and spiritual journey through breast cancer, was broadcast internationally on the Discovery Network, won top honors at WorldFest Houston, New England Film and Video Festival, and the Health Education Awards, and was screened at film festivals, conferences, and educational events throughout the world. Ms. McKeown is currently the Assistant Director of Interactive Communications at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
