Amari Johnson
Amari Johnson is a multi-disciplinary artist exploring cultural traditions of the African Diaspora. He has lived, worked, and studied in Brazil, Ghana, Cuba, Dominica, and various cities throughout the United States. His travels have shaped his music, which he has shared on stages across the country, in Africa, and in Europe. Amari is the author of the forthcoming book, A Curious Celestial Phenomenon (Minnesota 2024), which explores marronage and the quest for community autonomy in New Orleans in the years following Hurricane Katrina. Currently, he is completing THE FULL NEVER TOLD, a documentary examining the Dread Act period (1974-1981) in which Rastafarians on the Caribbean island of Dominica were actively and violently persecuted for their religious and cultural beliefs.
