Dr. Heang Leung Rubin is a creative entrepreneur and community storyteller.   After a successful career in higher education, she is now devoting her time, energy, and skills to amplifying stories about the community through creative and artistic methods in order to reach a broader audience.  She is working on a spiritual memoir about faith, family, and forgiveness and spearheading the making of OVERDUE, a multi-year documentary project about the fight for the Chinatown permanent branch library.  She chaired the Friends of the Chinatown Library committee from 2013 – 2022, during which she worked with Chinatown, the Boston Planning and Development Agency, and the Boston Public Library to come to consensus about the RFP for R-1 that will be the site for the Chinatown branch library.  She has done community storytelling projects for Residence Lab, the Massachusetts Storytelling Collaborative and the Design Gym.  Two years ago, she started her own consulting firm, CHIC Community Engagement Consulting, whose mission is to amplify the beauty of our communities through compassion, harmony, imagination, and celebration.  She is the 2022 Community Hero recipient from the Asian American Pacific Islander Commission.
