Frankly Speaking Films was founded in 2020 by Oakland-based queer activist filmmakers Jen Rainin and Rivkah Beth Medow, whose first collaboration on the feature documentary AHEAD OF THE CURVE, about the founder of Curve, the world’s best selling lesbian magazine, served as a model on which the company was built. The team created the Oscar short-listed documentary HOLDING MOSES, (2022, The New Yorker), and produced/executive produced HUMMINGBIRDS, which won the Grand Prix at Berlin and was the opening night film at True/False. They also executive produced the feature documentary JEANNETTE, currently in festivals, and have several projects currently in development. Frankly Speaking Films exists to tell mesmerizing stories about strong queer women and non-binary people.
