Joel Beeson

Joel Beeson is co-producer/co-writer of RAISED BY WOLVES. Beeson is a professor at West Virginia University College of Media, and his research investigates the risks that rural youth face online, including data privacy, mis/disinformation targeting, and susceptibility to extremist ideologies. Beeson previously published the VR documentary WWI THROUGH THE EYES OF THE CHICAGO DEFENDER as part of the WWI Centennial Commission based on more than a decade of research in WWI and WWII Black veterans, available at the Google Cultural Institute. Previously Beeson directed the award-winning 360° documentary FRACTURED TOUR on the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma, Alabama, and SOLDIERS OF THE COALFIELDS, an interactive community media project at the Kimball WWI Memorial in McDowell County, West Virginia. In addition, Beeson produced and directed the award-winning documentary, FIGHTING ON TWO FRONTS: THE UNTOLD STORIES OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WWII Veterans. Beeson has M.A. and B.A. degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and received his doctorate in American Studies at the Union Institute and University.
