Jonathan Skurnik

Jonathan has collaboratively written and directed one narrative feature and written and directed five narrative shorts. He has produced and directed award–winning, broadcast documentaries for more than 25 years. His most recent documentary, BECOMING JOHANNA, broadcast on PBS in the Summer and fall of 2022. Jonathan served as Chair of New Day Films and teaches graduate and undergraduate filmmaking at UCLA and Chapman University.

Jonathan grew up in Jewy New York City and dedicated himself to making people cry—with his many award-winning, social issue PBS documentaries (he took Tikkun Olam very seriously). Now, Jonathan plans to make people laugh (still Tikkun Olam!)—by writing and directing movie and TV comedies, often reflecting the modern and sometimes surreal experiences of contemporary American Jews.
