Joy Ma
Joy Ma is a producer, writer, and cultural historian whose work centers on reclaiming erased and marginalized histories within the Asian diaspora. She is the co-author of The Deoliwallahs, the first major nonfiction account of the 1962 internment of Chinese Indians, and serves as an executive producer of Voices of Deoli, a documentary that brings survivor testimonies to the screen for the first time. Joy’s rigorous storytelling blends meticulous archival research with profound emotional clarity, shaped significantly by her own family’s history and her deep commitment to preserving community memory. In Munglan – The Migration Story: Pratima Sherpa, she expertly applies her experience in documentary production and diasporic storytelling to a contemporary migration story rooted in hope, identity, and the relentless pursuit of new horizons.
