Kayla Weisdorf

Kayla Weisdorf is a Canadian artist and filmmaker with Polish and US citizenship based in New York City. Her recent work—combining film/video, photography, illustration, sculpture, installation, performance, web art, and citizen science—builds an erotics of action on the climate and biodiversity crises through explorations of the tactile pleasures offered by the nature-based solution of eelgrass. She holds a BA in Modern Culture and Media from Brown University, an MFA in Film/Video from the California Institute of the Arts, and was a studio participant in 2018–19 Whitney Independent Study Program. Weisdorf was also awarded seed and accelerator monies by Visions2030’s Imaginator Start-Up initiative in 2020 and 2021 for her project “Planting seagrass,” and took part in the 2022–23 Interdisciplinary Art and Theory Program. Recent exhibitions and performances include Anonymous Gallery (New York), Jack Shainman Gallery (New York), The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York), and The Box (Los Angeles).
