Mel Taing

Mel Taing is a Cambodian-American photographer and educator based in Boston. As a photographer, Mel works in the intersection between people and art – documenting exhibitions and events at arts institutions and serving her artist community through portraiture. Mel has helped shape the marketing and storytelling for institutions such as ICA Boston, MIT List Visual Arts Center and deCordova Sculpture and Park Museum. Mel graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Film/Video. Specializing in cinematography and creative direction, Mel deeply enjoyed telling stories of those unheard by history books. She has had multiple collaborations within Boston Chinatown through the Pao Arts Center as an exhibiting artist and photographer for all exhibitions and art installations. Mel was also a teaching artist with the Asian Voices of Organized Youth for Community Empowerment (A-VOYCE) program in 2022, facilitating community engagement to surface the dreams and hopes for the future Chinatown library branch.
