Robert James

A midlife career change took Robert from being a novice videographer to a burgeoning filmmaker that began with Film Production classes at City College San Francisco in 2009. An internship with a documentary filmmaker quickly launched Robert first into production work on their projects and earned him screen credits before he co-directed, produced and wrote his own short film. Library of Dust went on to win numerous awards in major film festivals. After creating NuReality Productions based in Berkeley CA, Robert began work on a five-part series called The Night Minister that completed production after shooting for 6 years. During this time, Robert also made his first feature documentary film, RUMINATIONS about drag icon Rumi Missabu, which is playing in festivals currently. VERASPHERE: A LOVE STORY IN COSTUME, set to premiere in Spring 2019 is a 20 minute short film about Love, Survival, Art and Community. Robert is drawn toward provocative and edgy subjects. All of his films involve artistic creation told through stories of mental illness, sex & religion, gender identity and now, long-term AIDS survival.
