Scott Alexander Ruderman
Scott Alexander Ruderman (Director, Producer, DP) is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work has appeared on Netflix, Paramount+, MTV, HBO, PBS, BBC, A&E, Hulu, and Discovery+, and a 2024 DocNYC 40 Under 40 honoree.
His directorial debut, Pay or Die, executive produced by Sheila Nevins and Sarah Silverman and acquired by MTV Documentary Films, premiered at SXSW. The film won the Cinema for Peace Dove in Global Health Award Film Inquiry and was recognized by Film Inquiry as one of the most vital documentaries in the ongoing fight for healthcare rights. The film followed families unable to afford insulin, exposing the human cost of a system that made a life-saving medication inaccessible to those who needed it most. Scott lives with Type 1 diabetes. He made the film because the price of staying alive was out of reach for too many.
Together Down is the next chapter of that same inquiry. Not insulin this time, but a mountain. A different body. The same question: who gets access, and who doesn’t?
Scott serves on the advisory board of ReelAbilities International, the world’s largest film festival dedicated to disability culture. He brings to this film not just a camera, but a lived understanding of what it means to navigate a world not designed for you.
