LUCK is the survival story of an artist and his artform.
Kid Lucky spent over half his life resurrecting a lost cultural tradition from his childhood – beatboxing. Commonly known as the art of making beats, rhythms, and musical sounds with the mouth, Kid revived the beatbox scene by building a global network of jaw-dropping vocalists. Now in his 40s, he’s known as “The Mayor” of New York’s East Village – stopping every few feet to talk with members of the chosen family he created. But these days, he walks with a cane, struggling to make it down the street, let alone continue his work as the leader of an international movement.
Kid Lucky saved the dying beatbox community by finding hundreds of vocal misfits and bringing them together. Now, a Stage 3 cancer diagnosis threatens to tear his life apart. After years of neglect at the hands of a discriminatory healthcare system, Kid’s time is running out. With no medical coverage and a mountain of healthcare costs, Kid must inspire a new kind of movement – this time to save his life.
