Over 40 million acres of American lawn – roughly twice as much as every cotton field, rice paddy, potato crop, and fruit, nut, and berry orchard in the country combined. This is the story of the Americans who turned it back into something alive. A documentary short traveling the country — Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Los Angeles — to meet the homeowners, families, and neighbors who looked at the unused parts of their yards and planted something else. What came back surprised them: fireflies, butterflies, a little more community. It is part of a broader shift already underway, with more people rethinking what a yard is for.
