A husband-wife team in Southern Indiana are on a mission: to heal the planet through compost, with the help of ex-offenders.
Political Economist Ryan Conway and his wife Andrea Avena Koenigsberger, were on a track to academic stardom at Indiana University — until they moved to a small farm in Bloomington, IN and started a community composting business. When the business takes off, the Earthkeepers seek help – and end up partnering with Made up Mind (M.U.M.), a non-profit that helps ex-offenders find jobs and stay out of jail.
Most of global society treats trash the same way we treat people who’ve committed crimes. We just want it to go away….I see the same story of hope and transformation in turning food waste into compost as I see in helping ex-offenders reintegrate into their communities with green jobs.
