On October 29, 1990, a head and feet were discovered in a dumpster in West Hollywood. Thirty years later, while working on her film “Circus of Books” director Rachel Mason learned about this unsolved murder. Mason decided to make a new documentary focused on the story of the victim, Billy London, a young man who escaped from rural Wisconsin, only to be murdered in the city that he hoped would be a place of safety. Eventually, while researching Billy’s life and death, Mason, along with her collaborators, solved the case, making headlines in the Los Angeles Times and beyond. Billy’s death was revealed to be a hate crime, committed in plain sight by a person within the gay community — someone responsible for even more deaths.
