87 year old Mori Yuriko spends Thursday afternoons tutoring Norwegian artist Gardar Eide Einarsson in Japanese. Over their five years of sessions, trust and friendship evolves. Lessons fall to the wayside as Mori-san shares rich and humorous stories about a recent mountain climbing expedition,  her time as a UN translator, and her friendship with Karl Lagerfeld as his personal translator when she worked at Isetan Department Stores.

But there is a childhood story she’s both eager and apprehensive to tell, one she’s not even shared with her own family. At 9 years old, Mori-san survived the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb.
