Ethan Bien is a documentary filmmaker and writer based in Maine and Mexico City. He has produced videos for PBS, Mongabay, and Our Land, and has produced and co-produced various independent documentaries on a variety of issues, including the Sin Maíz No Hay País movement in Mexico and the California drought’s impact on small farmers and farmworkers. His first exposure to the reproductive rights struggle was a summer media internship with an abortion clinic in rural Maine, where he grew up. He has followed the deterioration of abortion rights and access in the US during his lifetime with great dismay. His interest in this issue and his desire to find different perspectives on this perennial topic brought him to Mexico in 2015. He is also a professional fisherman with over a decade of experience. He has a master’s degree in documentary filmmaking from the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
