Set against the rich cultural backdrop of San Francisco, SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN follows three families at different points on the Italian-American spectrum: an American family with deep Italian roots, a bicultural family split between Italy and the United States, and a newly arrived Italian family still learning to navigate their adopted home.

Through their daily lives, around kitchen tables, in neighborhood streets, at community gatherings, we witness how “Italianity” is lived, questioned, and reinvented across generations. As American culture shapes their routines, values, and identities, the Italian culture they carry shapes the community around them, creating a constant push and pull between memory and reinvention.

The documentary dives into a rarely explored tension that many immigrant groups face every day: why many Italians from Italy do not recognize themselves in Italian Americans, and why Italian Americans cling so passionately to an ancestral homeland they may have never seen. Between nostalgia and authenticity, between the old country and the new world, each family reveals a different version of what it means to belong.

‘Somewhere in Between’ is a heartfelt, character-driven exploration of heritage, identity, and the invisible thread that ties generations together. It is a story about immigrant communities, messy, proud, loving, and endlessly evolving, and about the space where cultures collide, overlap, and create something entirely their own.
